Time For School: U.S. Democracy Is Not Mob Rule

Image
Photo by   Vincent van Zalinge   on  Unsplash First published on Medium . . Our democracy is dually understood, not duly. One group calls it the angry mob, and the remainder of us consider it   We The People .   Guess who considers a democracy an angry mob?   The fearful wealthy aristocrat and plutocrat believe that if the poorest 90% had their way, they would, like a   mob in an emotional stupor , completely level the economic conditions of every adult American.   Should these wealthy, flap-sweats fear such a democracy?   Yes, and no. . First, while any political structure can be misused, democracy is at least as safe, secure, and sensible as any other system. It all depends on how you approach it. Second, there are the   Republican Form of Government   aficionados, and their sycophants that   deny democracy is mentioned   in the Constitution. They are merely cherrypicking the Constitution to fit their narrow view of all...

Juneteenth Memory Remembrance: Life Is Complicated.

Image
Photo by LinkedIn Sales Navigator on  Unsplash I wrote about this memory, first as a condensed, tweet thread last Juneteenth . I worked part time for a black business owner, as I attended Brown Institute for radio in Minneapolis from 1983–84. Initially, I was one of only two workers. Both of us were white. And why was that? Race in America is complicated. Later it was myself and two black workers, one of them worked directly with Bill on reupholstering. Then one of the black employees was working with me after the upholsterer left. The remaining worker had been in the Navy. We became quick friends, being the same age; he even invited me to come with him to a party Prince was putting on. My last coworker was a 4th generation Latino Minnesotan; a great guy, too. Finally, after 10 months it was just the boss and me. Then one day… “Bill” stood in front of me… . He had arrived here via the The Great Migration from 1950s Alabama. He ran his own, small upholstery shop for 30 years by 1...

Firing Up Superposition Liberal And Conservative Reptile Brains.

Image
Campfire behind our home, near the cornfield… Essay first published on Medium . Chaos and random events are occurring all the time at various levels, and is required for order to reorder effectively into another, unavoidable stage. Conservatives want to prevent all chaos and randomness, and therefore the next stage of unavoidable change, similar to a region that continually suppresses forest fires to prevent damage to the human made structures, and the injury or death of its residents. . The Analogy Expression. Yet after awhile, practicing suppression becomes dangerous, and all suppression efforts are overwhelmed, causing massive damage and calamitous results much worse than if suppression would not have been the main part of the plan. The inelasticity of the conservative, reptile-brain function, in either party depending on the issue, makes likely an implosion or explosion once suppression fails. . Unfortunately, those are the results residents demand , through their lack of desire f...

In The Comfort Zone, Then Boom, White Backlash

Image
Hovering around the 98% comfort zone is a perfect place to find safe harbor for a "conservative" sensibility. When whites make up such a high percentage of a population, there is little need to change, or even turn your head in that direction. Society is "progressing" just fine. The neighboring area, community or state may disturb your sense of tranquility, but the worries are so minor it takes a huge disturbance to upset your world. White backlash is never on your color radar until it is. Then changes to your sensible world become an imminent fear. Likely nothing will change, especially to your actual detriment, but backlash is required to guarantee the boat does not rock. Even the perception of rocking is enough to elicit a backlash. Any more volatility, and your white world would collapse into actually looking deep into why these "disturbances" occur, and helping secure real solutions. However, your trips to the cabin, next European vacation, or the k...
